Poem- Manjeri: Persistence of memory

You can read this and more poems from my book, "poems for the spiritually sensitive" which is available on Amazon.

When silence breathes her sorrow,

and still winds carry men’s tomorrow,

I pull the caged bird to my bosom,

and sing into her bosom.

When we loved so deep,

and then missed so deep,

I pulled the girl toward me.

We cuddled for a moment or two,

and then huddled till the break of dawn.

Memories fade, sorrows fade,

time blunts everything,

time blunts nothing,

I didn’t ever forget you,

but carry the cross always.

The cross of changes,

the persistence of memory.

Do you remember, do you?

Manjeri, Manjeri, I still wear you like a tattoo.

When silence breathes her unholy breath,

and minstrels and muses skip along distant paths,

sadness fades, time fades;

I plant upon your neck a million kisses.

My Manjeri stares back,

only a glimmer of memory remains.

They call it the creaking door sickness.

I call it the shaker shaker demon.

The medicine men want more cowrie shells.

Perhaps then the gods will return her to me.
